Buyer Job Description

As a Buyer, you will be responsible for assisting the Purchasing Team Lead and the Director of Procurement in purchasing materials, sourcing engineered materials, equipment, services and managing vendors. The successful candidate will be able to perform engineered products sourcing activities, tactical and strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, along with assisting distribution facilities with inventory programs. This candidate will work with other department managers on new purchasing and sourcing lean process implementation, continuous improvement projects and other cross functional teams as required.

Buyer Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies
  • Source new materials as required by Engineering
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • Craft negotiation strategies and close deals with optimal terms
  • Partner with stake holders to ensure clear requirements documentation
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
  • Perform cost and scenario analysis and bench marketing
  • Assess, manage and mitigate risks
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
  • Determine quantity and timing of deliveries
  • Monitor and forecast upcoming demand at satellite distribution facilities
  • Project Management
  • Ability to implement and assure best practices, which follow Quality Management Systems (QMS), ISO or like quality related to purchasing and inventory control

Buyer Requirements

  • BS degree or equivalent work experience in supply chain management, logistics or business administration
  • Three to Five years’ experience in purchasing and sourcing of engineered technical products
  • Converter Industry experience
  • Two years’ minimum experience using SAP Purchasing and Logistics Modules
  • Proven working experience as a purchasing agent / buyer
  • Two to five years’ experience in engineered technical sourcing and vendor management
  • Inventory management skills
  • Knowledge of market dynamics along with business acumen
  • Strong negotiation and networking skills
  • Working experience of vendor management software
  • Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures
  • Solid judgement along with decision making skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with MS Excel and other MS Office Suite applications
  • S&OP or other integrated business management process experience
