Camp Counselor-Camp KingfisherCamp Counselor-Camp KingfisherJob Title: Camp CounselorHours: 40-50 hours per weekClassification: Nonexempt, hourly, seasonalReports to: Head Counselor Position Purpose: Every counselor at Camp Kingfisher is hired to:lead campers as a positive, caring role modelprovide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experienceshelp campers grow and learn through challengesAs the primary caregivers for each camper in their group, Camp Counselors must be fun, dynamic and safety-conscious. Camp Counselors plan and implement daily schedules, lead activities and songs, coordinate with co-counselors, and communicate with parents. Job Responsibilities:Supervise groups of children grades rising K-7th in an outdoor settingLead camper activities with excellence and enthusiasmDevelop and implement environmental education activities (hikes, animal demonstrations, science exploration activities) on a daily basis, program resources providedMaintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staffClean camp facilities as needed/requiredHandle captive wildlife daily in camp programsAttend weekly camp staff meetings and trainingsWork in aftercare program (as needed) and attend weekly camp staff meetingsAssist in program areas such as waterfront, pool, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directedComplete additional duties as assigned Other Job Duties:Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver evening programming (older camper groups)Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requestedKeeping track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work Qualifications:Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with childrenComfortable in an outdoor settingBackground in environmental education, natural history, education, child care, or campsWillingness to handle captive wildlife, training providedCurrent tetanus shot or willingness to obtain oneCurrent First Aid/CPR certification, course providedWillingness to work outdoors during the summer seasonValid GA driver’s licenseMust be able to lift over 20 pounds Apply:Complete and submit the online application.Obtain 2 references.
