Papermill Production Unit Leader

Description

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Papermill Production Unit Leader to join our team in Cedar Springs, Georgia (Containerboard) supporting the paper mill department. This position will provide strategic and tactical leadership to achieve key operation objectives in safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production, quality, and cost for one linerboard or medium paper machine. The successful candidate will focus on safely improving productivity and reducing costs through process/equipment optimization and operator knowledge/skill improvement. What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Drive a culture of safety and environmental excellence through critical hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation
  • Work directly with operators, shift leaders and maintenance to meet the business objectives of the department
  • Lead teams in the identification, development and implementation of safety, quality and/or cost reduction initiatives that add the highest value to the operation and drive continuous improvement
  • Integral team member of the paper machine outage planning and responsible for the safe execution of routine and annual machine outages
  • Understand, communicates, and align goals in the area of quality, production, safety and reliability
  • Drive process and equipment modifications that result in improved product quality, reduced variation, and higher customer satisfaction
  • Utilize effective communication (written and verbal), organizational, and planning skills
  • Employ strong interpersonal skills (i.e., coaching, mentoring, counseling, directing, delegating, advising, collaborating, and influencing) for the hourly team members on your machine, as well as the manufacturing engineers that support the team

The Experience You Will Bring

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five (5) or more years of experience with paper machine operations, including knowledge of paper mill processes, equipment operation and interfacing with maintenance resources.
  • Experience leading others in an industrial work environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • Linerboard or medium manufacturing experience
  • Experience managing in a labor union environment
  • Data analysis and process optimization experience
