– ( 3140918 ) nn nn TheDirector of Development plays an integral role in strengthening thephilanthropic program for the Mass General Research Institute.

Mass General ishome to the largest hospital-based research enterprise in the United States, wheremore than 9,500 people – physicians and physician-scientists, PhDInvestigators, nurses and other clinical team members, technologists, engineersand other specialists – collaborate every day on interdisciplinary researchteams to bring scientific breakthroughs from the laboratory to patient bedsides.

nn nn Workingclosely with Research Institute leadership, Development colleagues, hospitalphysicians, nurses, and scientists, the Director will manage a portfolio ofdonors and will be responsible for the strategic identification, cultivation,solicitation and stewardship of major gifts prospects and donors who are atvarious stages in their relationship with the hospital.

nn nn TheDirector of Development will spend a significant portion of their timefundraising for the Research Institute, but we anticipate that their work willinclude other fundraising priorities that are considered “cross cutting,”including, community health, education, innovation, and diversity andinclusion.

nn nn Theideal candidate will be highly motivated and able to adapt flexibly to emergingopportunities within a fast-paced, donor-oriented environment.

They will be acollegial and entrepreneurial team player with a proven ability to inspire,engage and work collaboratively at all levels.

nn Actively manage a portfolio of prospects and donors at the $250K or higher level Formulate, document and execute prospect and donor moves management strategies with a high degree of independence Work with prospects to develop and enhance their relationship to and connection with the hospital, ultimately leveraging that relationship to maximize philanthropic giving Successfully solicit and close gifts (outright, life income, bequests, and gifts of assets), working with hospital leadership and senior staff as appropriate to develop and produce compelling donor proposals Meet targets for prospect activity and fundraising outcomes through both proactive and reactive donor identification and engagement Collaborate with colleagues across fundraising teams to achieve both Research Institute team and overall Development office fundraising goals Fully document work in donor database nn Coordinateactivities of the Research Institute Advisory Council in collaboration withResearch Institute team colleagues and research leadership to advance thegrowth and philanthropic efforts of this highly engaged volunteer leadershipgroup nn Contribute to a supportive and results-focused office culture, even in the face of high work volume and challenging periods Assist with recruitment activities as needed nn Takeon other office-wide duties at the request of Development leadership nn nn Adhereto the mission, credo, and standards of behavior of Mass General nn nn nn Thisposition requires 7-10 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree.

We arelooking for someone who has a comprehensive understanding of major giftsfundraising principles and practices; knowledge of health care and biomedicalresearch; demonstrated ability to build relationships both internally and withprospects and donors; track record of six
– and seven-figure gift solicitations;comfort and experience with portfolio development.
