Sales Marketing Manager

McCorkle Nurseries, Inc.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Sales and Marketing Manager is responsible for the strategic direction of the sales, customer service, and marketing functions of the MNI Dearing Operations; uses experience, research, and industry knowledge to position company products and services to exceed customer expectations; responsible for developing and growing relationships, creating sales opportunities, and guiding the sales team in setting and meeting company goals. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead, manage, mentor, train, and hold accountable the sales organization employees (sales, customer service, and marketing teams) of MNI Dearing Operations. 
  • Set sales standards and performance goals; review and analyze sales performance against programs, quotes, and determine effectiveness for assigned customer base.
  • Maintain up-to-date understanding of industry trends and developments that affect the target markets.  
  • Collaborate and assist with production planning, in setting and maintaining sales forecasts by customer segment, attaining acceptable profit margins and other business goals. 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with inventory manager to ensure plant inventory is allocated appropriately to customers (independent garden center, box stores, and others). 
  • Develop and deliver sales presentations, marketing proposals to key customers and achieve budgeted sales and margins. 
  • Develop and maintain outstanding rapport with all customer segments: independent garden centers and box store corporate buyers, managers, and merchandising partners and others.  
  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate sales data, vendor performance and other sales reports on a regular basis.
  • Represent the company at trade shows and events. 

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Business; MBA a plus. 
  • 10 years of business-to-business sales experience; horticulture knowledge a plus. 
  • Plant product knowledge or the ability and desire to learn. 
  • Persuasive communication, organization, computer, and presentation skills. 
  • Position requires valid Driver License.
  • Expert customer service and team building skills. 

PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE POSITION:

  • Prolonged sitting, driving, and use of computer and telephone.
  • Must be able to travel and remain over-night up to 30%%%% of work time.
  • Ability to read small print including colors.
  • Expert in MS Office. 
  • Operate office equipment.
